Once, comprised of up to 20 groups of hunter-gatherer Amerindian groups, the current day Argentina, was colonized starting in 1535 by the Spanish settlers of Peru. During this time, Argentina along with the rest of the La Plata area (the land area south of the Rio de la Plata) was part of the Viceroyalty of Peru. During the initial colonization period, the Spaniards didn’t have a significant interest in Argentina itself, because the area didn’t have the mineral deposits other areas did and the Spaniards overlooked the soil conditions and the climate of the area and because the area was overlooked, the area had a low population of only about 25,000. In 1776, Argentina would become part of the
United Provinces of Rio Plata and would soon become a major interest to Spain in order to prevent the growth of both Britain and Portugal. The current day area of Argentina was born after several countries within the United Provinces of Rio Plata (Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay) claimed independence from Spain on July 9, 1816. Argentina is located east of Chile, west of Uruguay and southern Brazil and south of Paraguay and Bolivia.
After Argentina's gained independence, Argentina became a country which was leading the way in modernization and because of that, it became a destination that people flocked to. Migrants from all over Europe went to Argentina and eventually earned Argentina the name “the Paris of South America”.
With a current population of 42,192,494, Argentina, is currently the 32nd largest country in the world and almost 13 million of the population live in the countries capital of Buenos Aires. The Argentine population is comprised of mainly people of European decent, with more than 97% of the country being white (primarily Spanish or Italian) and only 3% of people being Mestizo (Mixed white and Amerindian), or non-white groups. Currently there are little to no indigenous groups left in the region. The only current pure Amerindian groups seen in this area are migrants from the neighboring Bolivia and Paraguay.

The charts above show the population in Argentina in 1955 as well as the projected population of Argentina in 2100.
The chart of 1955 reflects a high birth rate and large population levels of people 40 and under. Both of these factors are a direct result of During 1955, the world was recoviering from WWII. Argentina had extremely high populations of fleeing German Nazis move into the country. With The incoming Nazi Soldiers and the world economy recovering, the birthrate saw an increase which lead to a high population of children.
The second chart represents where the populations of Argentina is predicted to be in 2100. The predicted population chart shows that people in Argentina are living longer. With people in the country living longer the birthrate will remain consistent with rest of the population and there isn't an expectedincrease in that birthrate between now (2013) and 2100.
